Why our values are honesty, security and ease

When we started to consider the values of Pakastus.fi, in addition to a cup of coffee, another book ended up on the table: Kim Väisänen's Wrong Attempts.

Väisänen writes about companies that are driving themselves to the brink by making the same mistakes over and over again. The book emphasizes the idea that values don't have to be an endless list of posters - it's enough to actually put a few things into practice and implement them in everyday life. He gathers practical themes such as finance, customer, development, employees and interaction as the company's core values, and also highlights reliability, honesty, responsibility and caring.

It crashed.

We decided to do the same exercise - but with the look of Pakastus.fi

We asked ourselves:

What does a customer really need when they are afraid that there are pests in their goods?

What things are so important that if we don't hold on to them, the whole thing makes no sense?

What values are concretely reflected in our Pitäjänmäki freezer space, not just on the website?

Based on the responses, three values emerged, to which we are seriously committed:

  1. Integrity
  2. Safety
  3. Ease

And what do they mean in practice? Let's take a look at them one by one.

1. Honesty

Honesty: straight talk about pests

In his book, Väisänen reminds us that companies often make the same mistake: they try to please everyone and tell everyone everything – except the truth as it is. This leads to false expectations and disappointment. We don’t want to be that kind of company.

At Pakastus.fi, honesty means that:

  • Let's tell you straight up what frost treatment is effective for - and what it isn't.
Cold kills most common pests and their eggs when the temperature and time are right. We'll be upfront about when a service is a smart choice and when we recommend a pest control service for your home.
  • We don't promise miracles, we promise a method that works.
Freezing is a simple, proven way to reduce the risk of pests in luggage, clothing and equipment. It's not a magic trick – and it doesn't have to be sold as such.
  • Pricing and policies are clear.
You can see in advance what a week's worth of freezing will cost. No hidden costs, no "small extra charge for this and that".
  • No blaming, no shame.
Pests can come to anyone – from an airplane, a hotel, a flea market, even your neighbor’s couch. We’re not suggesting that “you did something wrong.” We’re telling you what to do in the situation.

Honesty is shown, for example, in the fact that we also explain the limitations of the service:

A freezer is no substitute for proper pest control by a professional if your home is already infested with pests.

For us, honesty is a bit like “doing your homework” as described in Väisänen's book: we would rather say directly what freezing really is than make empty promises.

2. Safety

Security is a two-part issue for us:

  • we make sure nothing can spread on our premises
  • We ensure that the service can be used safely and confidently from start to finish.

The safety of our premises – the most important foundation of our service

Because customers bring items into the space that may contain pests, every detail is designed to prevent anything from spreading throughout the space.

Therefore:

  • All items are packed in garbage bags before being brought into the facility.
This is the most important and first protection against the spread of insects.
  • Each customer has their own freezer.
The goods never come into contact with other customers' goods.
  • The facility is intended for pest control purposes only.
No food or other material that could harbor pests is stored there.
  • The routes and instructions are designed to prevent insects from moving around the space.
  • The entrance is via PIN code.
No outsiders will be allowed into the space.
  • The space is under camera surveillance.
Safe and controlled operations are ensured around the clock.
  • The space is kept clean, supervised and strictly controlled.

These practices prevent potential pests from spreading within the space – neither outside the freezer nor to other items.

When the security of the facility is in order and the processes are clear, the customer can focus on only one thing:

“Goods in, freezing started - and the matter has been handled in an orderly and safe manner.”

3. Ease

Ease: book online, take care of it in a week

In his book, Väisänen describes how companies often fail by making basic things too complicated - the customer's life doesn't get easier, but rather becomes more difficult.

We want to do just the opposite.

Helppus at Pakastus.fi means:

A simple idea:

  1. Reserve the freezer for a week.
  2. Bring your belongings to the Pitäjänmäki facility.
  3. Place the items in the freezer according to the instructions.
  4. Pick them up in a week.

Clear reservation:

  • Booking is done online with a few clicks. Easy payment via Paytrail.
  • You can immediately see what's available and how much it costs per week.

Clear instructions on site:

The order confirmation and the space contain simple instructions on how to pack and put the items in the freezer. You don't have to be a pest control professional to know how to do it right.

Self-service = no small talk:

Many people don't want to talk about pest issues face to face. We understand that. That's why the idea behind our space is that you can handle the freezing at your own pace, without someone asking you for details next door.

Ease also mentally:

It's easier to read clear instructions and take care of the matter in a week than to Google "do I have bedbugs or not" for three nights in a row - and end up in the depths of uncertainty.

Why these values in particular – and how did Väisänen influence them?

Kim Väisänen's Wrong Attempts highlights that companies often neglect the same things and repeat the same mistakes year after year – especially when they are not honest with themselves about what they do and to whom.

Inspired by the book, we decided:

  • We don't come up with ten trendy values that will be forgotten tomorrow. We chose three – honesty, security and ease – because they are the foundation of our entire service.
  • We make valuable practical choices, not posters.

Honesty is shown in the fact that we also tell you about situations where our service is not the right solution.

Safety is reflected in the design of the space, in the instructions, and in how we talk about pests – calmly, based on facts.

Ease is evident in the booking system, price list, signage, and the entire process.

We remind ourselves: if the value is not visible in everyday life, we must either give it up or make it true. We do not want to be a “false enterprise” – a company that says one thing and does another.
